Research-focused system to be installed at the EV Battery Industrialization Center by year-end
Robotics and AI-based automation expert Thoth begins research collaboration with Jeju TP

[Media Jeju - Reporter Hong Seokjun] Jeju is exploring ways to foster the electric vehicle (EV) battery industry by combining robotics, AI-based automation, and EV battery technologies.

Jeju Technopark (Jeju TP) announced on October 2 that it is collaborating with Thoth, a resident company, to establish an automated EV battery pack disassembly line at its EV Battery Industrialization Center for research purposes by the end of the year.

This automated system aims to reduce the time, cost, and safety risks associated with disassembling EV battery packs into modules. Currently, the disassembly process requires two experts and takes 2–4 hours, posing significant safety risks due to the handling of high-voltage batteries.

Once the automated EV battery pack disassembly line is operational, it is expected to create synergy by combining EV battery technology with advanced automation solutions. This is anticipated to further accelerate growth in industries related to EV batteries.

Jeju TP and Thoth plan to intensify their research collaboration by sharing their respective technologies. Thoth, one of the nation's leading providers of AI-based unmanned automation solutions, operates a research lab at Jeju Technopark's Energy Center.

Jang Dae-kyo, Head of the Future Convergence Business Division at Jeju TP, stated, "This automated system will enhance the efficiency and safety of battery recycling processes and promote further research and development in EV battery utilization technologies."

Meanwhile, Jeju TP operates Korea's first EV Battery Industrialization Center, serving as a regional control tower for the collection, storage, sales, and reuse of EV batteries in Jeju.
