Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, a leading region for climate tech in South Korea, held the 2024 Jeonbuk Climate Tech Demo Day 'SWITCH: Growth Stage' competition on September 23-24 in Gunsan.

The Growth Stage competition, targeting climate tech companies valued at over 10 billion KRW, saw THOTH emerge as the winner.

The Jeonbuk Climate Startup Competition 'SWITCH' is held in collaboration with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, Jeonbuk Technopark, and Sopoong Ventures, making Jeonbuk a prominent climate tech hub.

The 2024 'SWITCH' Climate Tech Demo Day features two stages : Growth Stage: For climate tech companies valued at over 10 billion KRW and Ground Stage: For startups with a valuation under 10 billion KRW, typically around seven years old.

The event took place at the Avon Hotel in Gunsan, with 11 climate tech startups participating in the Growth Stage competition.

In the IR competition, Thoth won the grand prize for its development of a "robot AI-powered automated solution for disassembling electric vehicle (EV) waste batteries.

And Cosmos Lab won the best award and AP Green and COSOLUS won Excellence Award.

The event also featured keynote speeches:

  • "Carbon Neutrality and Climate Tech in the Era of the Climate Crisis" by Namjeong Jang, Senior Researcher at Jeonbuk Research Institute.
  • "Climate Tech Startups and Investment Trends" by Sangyeob Han, CEO of Sopoong Ventures.

Additionally, discussions on "Collaboration Between Large Corporations and Startups" and "Consortium R&D Structures and Execution Strategies" resonated with the attendees, highlighting the efforts towards a climate tech transition.

On the first day, a facilitator program was held, providing an opportunity for startups, large corporations, mid-sized companies, research institutions, and venture capital representatives to network.

 

Jeonbuk Climate Tech Demo Day 'SWITCH' is now recruiting participants for the new Ground Stage track, aimed at startups with a valuation of under 10 billion KRW and founded within the last seven years. Applications can be submitted through the official SWITCH website, with 10 finalists to be selected through document evaluation and recommendations. The finalists will receive support in the form of IR deck coaching and pitching strategies through an acceleration program by Sopoong Ventures.

Sangyeob Han, CEO of Sopoong Ventures, remarked, "It was a meaningful event where we could collaborate with startups, large corporations, research institutions, and venture capitalists, tackling the climate crisis alongside Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, a region emerging as a climate tech hub.
